Silhouette are a local post-hardcore band from Digos City, Davao del Sur, Philippines. Its members include Arjae Pardillo on vocals, Ezraph Lostold and Matt Gabriel Moniño on guitar, Christian Dariel Oja on bass and AJ Orlanes on drums. The band has released their debut single “labo.mp4” on July 2024.
BEGINNINGS (JULY 2022 - MARCH 2024)Little was known about the formation of their former band The Reapers. In July 2022, Ezraph was recruited as bassist for The Reapers by Arjae through a Facebook messenger conversation, with the goal of joining battle of the bands contests, bar and busking gigs.Their last show together was in June 2023 where they played a preliminary set for the Davao del Sur battle of the bands contest, to which they didn’t make it to the finals. The Reapers dissolved and snowballed towards forming Silhouette.Silhouette was formed in July 2023 by members Arjae and Ezraph with their former member. Started as an acoustic covers band, they have played in bars such as Rolly’s Restobar and 1521 (which used to be Tambayan Sa Centro during their formation) until July 2023 when they brought back Japhet on guitar and former strangers band guitarist JC Mantalaba. It wasn’t until 2024 where the lineup started becoming inconsistent again, with members changing roles almost every gig and contest. Key sessionists occasionally consist of Matt Gabriel Moniño on either guitar and drums, and a few others.THE RELEASE OF "LABO.MP4" AND THE BIRTH OF "LANGAW" (MARCH - JUNE 2024)In March 2024, the band started writing their first song “labo.mp4” as their contribution to Zepra’s composition contest, to which they didn’t win. The song, however, which the intro was written by former member Japhet Kundiman, was already recorded and mixed by Ezraph himself, with Arjae on vocals. They were invited to play in Menthodex productions’ "420 Rockafusion" event by Kevin Zapanta of National Item, with Sagpa ni Mama, Cockroach and the Leftovers, Sharpen Your Pencil and more. This started their friendship with the production as they eventually went on to play more Menthodex shows such as the Tres de Mayo Loud Fest on May 13, and Mindanao Hardcore Fest on September 7.Early April 2024 saw the expulsion of their former vocalist due to leadership and creativity issues. The band originally planned a release with a fusion of metal, hardcore and pop, to which this was scrapped. Thus, they eventually wrote “Langaw (The FUBU Shirt Epidemic)” to be played in the aforementioned Loud Fest in Tres de Mayo. The song was their first diss track as it is purely written with anger, but with no intention of misogyny. This is the first time Ezraph has written and contributed vocals to the song.HARDCORE DEBUT (JUNE - OCTOBER 2024)In June 2024, they recruited former Pentarhythms drummer Masongsong to play drums for the Davao del Sur battle of the bands contest (for the first time as Silhouette) to which they again did not make it to the finals. The song “061524” (also known as ‘June 15th’) was being written two days later. The song is a lamentation of the events that happened in the 15th of June, involving Ezraph's ex-fling.In July 2024, they released “labo.mp4” on youtube with a lyric video directed by Arjae. They played in 1521’s originals night with the newly reformed reggae band Mantrip. In July 27th, Japhet and Ibhan left the band due to an altercation during the show. The band played 3 sets with almost no rehearsal. This leads to the lineup being inconsistent again as they recruited random members for one offs. That same month, they were invited to play in Mindanao Hardcore Fest 2024 (which one of the organizers were Menthodex Productions). The original lineup for the event was Arjae on vocals, Ezraph on guitar, Dariel on drums and Masongsong on drums, the latter of which however left 2 days before the event due to conflict. As a last-minute replacement, Matt was recruited on guitar. The event was their first mindanao-wide event as it includes bands from Gensan, Bukidnon, Davao, Bukidnon and many more, such as SPAM, The Cussed, Clobeerin' Time, We Killed Samantha and 32 Stab Wounds, to name a few.RETURN TO BUSKING AND ALAP EP (OCTOBER 2024 - JANUARY 2025)Silhouette played their last ever 1521 show on the 13th of September, as on October 2024, 1521 restobar, which Silhouette has played in for months, has announced their sudden closure due to renovations, until they eventually never reopened. This forced Silhouette to go back to busking gigs in Digos Kahugpong Night Market as there has been no more bars they could play on that allow Silhouette to play differently than other local bands. They released their debut self-released EP “ALAP” on Youtube and Soundcloud which included 2 of their previous written songs. In November 2024, Ezraph started filming and directing a music video for their song “Langaw”, released on April Fools Day 2025. Ezraph, who produced and recorded their first ep, was dissatisfied by some of the songs (such as the first song "Alap") and is planning to rerelease it by 2025 to have 7 songs (including labo.mp4).COLLAB WITH RREIN (JANUARY - MAY 2025)Silhouette are planning to self-release their debut album by 2025. the album includes songs such as “Club DJ Gets Beaten Up For Playing ‘Sun And Moon’ For Ten Hours Straight” and “Ex Battalion Are Afraid Of Us”.January 2025 saw their first blow out as they went viral on Facebook Reels for “moshing during a busking gig” at Digos Kahugpong Night Market. The video as of february reached ~85,000 views, has reached artists such as BLYMLDT, and has shared a mix of positive and negative comments. In February 2025, the band recruited former Mantrip drummer AJ Orlanes on drums to play in Menthodex Productions’ “Rock Attack in Sogid” on the 22nd. Unfortunately, due to a family problem, Ezraph could not play in the event, as well as Dariel due to his hectic schedules. The band would go on with returning sessionist JC Mantalaba filling in on bass instead. After the February 22 show, the band would go on a break from playing shows to finish recording the new upcoming debut album. The band has collaborated with Davao singer RREIN for "TARA", a song written by RREIN himself and produced by the band, as an entry for the "BATANG TRES DE MAYO" song-writing competition event.THE FIRST ALBUM (MAY 2025 - PRESENT)On May 23, Silhouette has released "Silhouette Hates You!" along with the re-release of their "ALAP" EP on YouTube, Soundcloud and Bandcamp. On the first anniversary of the June 15th incident, Silhouette have released "Tanduay Select Your Character" at 6:15 PM. Five days later, they released "Injeolmi" which is heavily inspired by the South Korean TV show "Twenty Five Twenty One".The band will be playing their first ever Fête de la Musique show at Davao City this June 24 with Quarterlife Crisis, Cicada, Heather's Asleep, Kuan and Koronadal hardcore band Antlion. Unfortunately, Dariel cannot make it to the show due to financial problems. The band continued as a 4-piece with Ezraph filling in on bass duties. The band has received backlash after their set for Ezraph's over-energetic performance during the Fête event. They have since apologized to that matter, stating their mindfulness in future gigs.
